Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior representative commented the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
